Dear Agony Aunt,
My name is Elaisa and I'm 14 years old.
I have a very big problem:
My parents are very strict and unfair. They treat me like a little child and I haven't any privacy.
I'm not allowed to go out with my friends because my parents think that I will drink alcohol and smoke. And I'm also not allowed to have a boyfriend. They said that I'm too young for this. But I'm think that people in my age can decide on their own hand what's the best for themselves.
I wanted to talk about this with my parents, but they didn't listen to me.
And when I wanted to surf in the internet, my mother stand always behind me and looks what I do. That's stupid because when I want to chat with my friends in the msn-chat or icq she could always see what I write to my friends.
What should I do? Please help me, I'm really desperate!
Please write back as soon as possible!
Yours, Elaisa

simple present for habits / 3rd person 's': when I want to surf - my mother stands ...
(Virtually no mistakes in 1st half of the letter - tense mistakes in the second half)
What shall I do? (not 'should')The letter is quite good.
Dear Elaisa,
I read about your problems with your parents and I can understand that you are angry. Many teenagers feel treated unfairly, because they aren't allowed to do what they want. But have you considered that your parents probably only want your best? You said that you aren't allowed to go out with friends, because your parents think that you will drink alcohol or smoke. This seems as if they find it hard to trust you or your friends. I advise you to invite some of your friends to your house. Surely your parents will see that your friends are okay so they probably let you go out with them. I think they're most scared of you having the wrong friends.
Anyway, you should talk to your parents again. Tell them that you can understand that they're worried and then say that you wish to have more privacy. Ask them for a bit more trust and assure them that you will keep your promise.
I'm sure that you'll do fine. Barack Obama would say, "Yes, you can!" :)
Take care,
Nina
